Area businesses once again have the opportunity to lease local art as the Zeeland High School Art Department hosts its fifth annual “Art te Leen” gala.
Art te Leen (Dutch translation for to Loan) is a Zeeland High School Art department program that allows for local businesses to display art on loan created by ZHS artists. This event was created to recognize young artists and heighten community awareness of our students’ talents. Art te Leen gives students the opportunity to have their work publicly and locally displayed as well and serves to provoke and inspire conversation through art in our community.
The exhibit will feature the juried student-artwork, professionally framed and matted, from 14 Zeeland High School students in grades 9-12. Zeeland Art Gallery members Christine Towner, Cindy M. Bender and Brenda Jiral juried over 60 works submitted by students. The jury awarded 14 student pieces for inclusion into the exhibit. Each piece, framed locally by Zeeland Frameware, includes an etched name plate by Innovative Cutting & Engraving Inc.
The Art te Leen Exhibit will display the award winning artwork April 19 through May 3 at the Zeeland Art Gallery and Zeeland Frameware. Businesses and the community are welcome to stop in and view the artwork 10-4 Monday-Friday.
Mark your calendars to attend the Art te Leen Gala Closing Reception on May 3rd from 6-7pm at the Zeeland Art Gallery and Zeeland Frameware, 122 E Main Ave. The community will have an opportunity to meet the artists. Selections will be made by the registered business sponsors at that time as well. Patrons will take possession of their selected artwork to exhibit at their business for one year. At the expiration of the term, the framed artwork will be returned to the artist.
The Zeeland High School Art Department would like to recognize and thank the Zeeland Art Gallery Members, Greg Visser and Zeeland Frameware, our community and the 2022 Business Sponsors. Artwork can be viewed after the gala at the following 2022 local business sponsors: Royal Atrium Inn Assisted Living, Back to Health Chiropractic, HR Solutions of West Michigan, West Michigan Pediatric Dentistry, Zeeland Family Dentistry, Engage Therapy Center, Edward Jones Investments, Tripelroot, Gentex Corporation, M. VanderPlow Insurance Agency, Centerstone Family Dentistry and Zeeland Veterinary Services, Huntington Bank, and Riley’s Grove Assisted Living and Memory Care. Artwork will be returned to students on May 3, 2023.
The goal of Art te Leen is to excite, provoke and inspire conversation in the community through art.
